Aside from religious purposes, most people in the Victorian era refrained from wearing white at weddings. Many brides chose a floral pink or pastel blue with shots of gold and yellow for their wedding gown. However, for Queen Victoria's wedding, she chose to hold a completely white wedding, from the icing on the cake to the banquet walls and from the coronation roses to the color of her dress. Everything was white to symbolize purity and innocence. The guests were even requested to follow the white colored dress code. After this event, many other women started to follow this idea of having completely white weddings. Now, white is the most common wedding gown color. Some bridal companies don't even sell any other colored dress other than white!
